My Guilty Pleasure

It all starts with one blossom.
In Kuwait, we complain that there is not much to do and that we are always doing the same old things. However, do we really take advantage of what's around us? Do we take advantage of our interests?

There is one thing I love to do at night before going to bed and that my friends is gardening. Many of you are probably thinking "what is a 25 year old guy doing gardening?" "Isn't that for old people?"

I beg to differ...click the jump below to find out why gardening is my guilty pleasure.

It's been a long day at work. Family and friends consume energy. To stay fit I go jogging or play football. To me at the end of a long day I like to take advantage of my interests not only to keep myself entertained but I find it keeps me grounded.

In Kuwait, it's quite challenging to keep a garden fresh and looking great. The heat is a huge killer here, especially if you like exotic plants. It's not impossible to keep your garden looking great in Kuwait. It's just extremely difficult.

This challenge is something I always look for, I don't like anything that comes by so easily. I also find gardening to be quite a calming and relaxing experience. When I go out late at night to water the plants before bed, I feel at peace. When I water the plants I think of nothing but exactly what I'm doing, giving back to mother nature. Sure it sounds like something one of those "tree huggers" would say but it is true.

We live our daily lives polluting our earth, the litter problem in Kuwait is beyond understandable. It's even reached our Mosques! The other day I left the Friday prayer to find this laying outside.  (see picture below)

Do we really care about our environment? I'm not asking you all to be captain planet here, but if we all just did our part or atleast tried to help as much as possible could you imagine how much cleaner and how much more beautiful Kuwait would be? I get really disappointed at the littering problem. Also, with all the large displacement engines we drive in Kuwait - we're polluting our air and the heat is not helping at all. The least we could do is pick up some garbage and/or plant a few trees/plants - whether it's our own gardens or in an open area (of course I think we'd need gov't permission for public areas - though I don't think they'll deny you if you try and get permission).

It's not difficult, I'm sure we all have interests and hobbies that can help benefit Kuwait. Remember, we're all living here and even religiously speaking we need to take care of our Earth. Do your part - join a clean up, plant a tree/plant, do whatever you possibly can within the law.

My question to you all is, what would you do? or what do you currently do?
